Trend Watch: Rutilated Quartz

Rutilated quartz has been becoming more popular over the last year, with recent features in Modern Jeweler and In Style magazine. The stone is formed when needle-like strands of rutile (titanium dioxide crystals) become embedded in quartz crystal and form beautiful inclusions. The rutile can come in different colors, often a silver, gray, or flax tone.

The earrings shown at right are 14 karat gold plated sterling silver with gorgeous oval faceted rutilated quartz. They are very similar to the earrings featured this month in In Style magazine.
